KPMG Corporate Finance

Hitachi

The Company

Hitachi, Ltd. is a Japanese-based, global technology conglomerate with approximately US$76 billion in annual revenue. Despite its size and global client relationships, the company had a relatively limited presence in the U.S. IT services market.

The Situation

Hitachi’s senior management made the strategic decision to establish a greater presence in the market for IT services. After analyzing the alternatives for developing this business, the decision was made to pursue a mid-sized platform company in the US with an attractive mix of e-business related service offerings.

The Solution

KPMG Corporate Finance was engaged to manage the acquisition process. After evaluating a wide range of prospective targets and negotiating with several interested parties, discussions focused on three targets. In October 2000, within three months of engaging KPMG Corporate Finance, the acquisition was completed.

Multidisciplinary

KPMG Corporate Finance worked quickly and efficiently with a large number of constituent groups within Hitachi, as well as other KPMG Corporate Finance advisors, including KPMG’s Japan, Transaction Services, M&A Tax, Compensation and Benefits, and Business Integration practices.
