Bartlett

Our Role

KPMG Corporate Finance advised on the sale of The F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company’s Line Clearing Division and Utility Tree Service, Inc. to the Asplundh Tree Expert Company.

The Company

Bartlett is a vegetation control company located in Stamford, Connecticut with two lines of business, general tree care and line clearing. Bartlett is the largest general tree care company and was the sixth largest line clearing company, in the United States.
Strategic disposal: Bartlett’s objective was to divest its line clearing business and reallocate the financial resources created to expand its leading position as the premier general tree care company in the United States.

Deal Origination

KPMG Corporate Finance originated this transaction by presenting Bartlett management with a detailed divesture analysis which received board approval.

The Solution

Although there were several interested parties, Bartlett’s preferred buyer was Asplundh due to its industry experience, financial strength and ability to close the transaction expeditiously. As a result, KPMG Corporate Finance successfully negotiated a pre-emptive bid with Asplundh.
