KPMG Corporate Finance's Lorie Beers Named Co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute's Investment Banking Committee
May 5, 2008
KPMG Corporate Finance LLC, a full service, independent, middle-market investment bank, congratulates Lorie Beers, managing director with the Special Situations Advisory Group, on her appointment as co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI's) Investment Banking Committee.
The Committee consists of investment bankers, bankers, lawyers, and other turnaround professionals who intersect with investment banking issues in the context of bankruptcy matters. Ms. Beers began her two-year appointment as co-chair this spring, timed with the ABI’s Annual Spring Meeting.
As co-chair of the ABI's Investment Banking Committee, Ms. Beers will work alongside fellow co-chair J. Scott Victor of NatCity Investment Banking in actively overseeing five new committee leadership positions: the education director, who will assist the chairs in coordinating and administering the educational programs each year at the Annual Spring Meeting and the Winter Leadership Conference, as well as any other educational projects; the listserve moderator, who will help ensure that the committee has frequent and relevant listserve discussions; the newsletter editor, who will help ensure that the committee publishes newsletters with original articles at least quarterly; the membership relations director, who will help communicate with committee members to recruit and facilitate involvement; and, the special projects/task force leader, who is responsible for leading ad hoc groups as tasked by the chairs to perform special projects. As committee co-chair, Ms. Beers will also be responsible for identifying members who should serve in leadership positions or assist with other committee matters.
A long-time member of the ABI—the largest multidisciplinary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency—Ms. Beers assisted the ABI in developing its Complex Financial Restructuring Program (formerly the Investment Banking Program). She has also been a regular panelist at various ABI conferences, speaking on bankruptcy sales, complex financial restructuring, and the positioning of constituencies within the capital structure.
“I am honored to accept the position as co-chair and assist Scott in overseeing the Investment Banking Committee,” said Ms. Beers. “I am fortunate to have been involved with the ABI for years, and I look forward to taking my involvement to the next level.”
Since joining KPMG Corporate Finance LLC in 2007, Ms. Beers has been an instrumental addition to the Special Situations Advisory Group, which specializes in assisting distressed middle market companies to help maximize their economic recovery. Located in KPMG Corporate Finance’s New York office, Ms. Beers provides out-of-court and in-court services in distressed M&A, debt restructurings, and alternative financings to underperforming companies, debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, equity holders, and other constituents—all on a national basis.
